"Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others." – Jack Welch, former GE chairman, and CEO. Here in our classroom, my goal is to lead students into being responsible members of society- providing them with the tools they need to lead themselves into bright, successful futures.
I have the most wonderful junior high students!
They truly are the best! Many of my students come to our Title One school without eating breakfast, bringing school supplies, and some are even without homes. My students have so much potential for bright, rewarding futures and I am determined to help each student reach theirs.
My goal is to provide opportunities for the students in my classroom to take responsibility for themselves and to move into a leadership role. Providing storage towers for each pod of students will allow students to be more independent; They will be able to keep track of their classroom notes/projects and have access to necessary supplies, thus eliminating the need to ask. They will be able to problem solve on their own... skills students desperately need to develop!
My Project
The addition of storage carts, color-coded folders, and purple pens to our classroom will enable each pod (team of students) to gain ownership for their own learning materials. Students will be in charge of keeping their materials organized and refreshed, while also being held accountable for all supplies included. The storage carts and folders will allow students a place to keep their projects, notes, and assignment safe- thus, reducing the amount of missing work and class time spent searching through lockers or recopying notes. With high school and college looming in the imminent future for my students, self-help skills are going to be so important for their success. Allowing students the opportunity to empower themselves now, will allow them the ability to be responsible, organized, and accountable in the future.
These students are our future leaders, doctors, lawyers, businessmen/women, teachers, politicians, and civil servants... Teaching them to know how to be self-sufficient, responsible, and accountable students will empower them to make our world a better place...which is what we all want, isn't it?
