We are 32 amazing second graders who come to school ready to learn!
In addition to being an inclusion class with special needs students, many of my students come from low socioeconomic families with parents who have limited, if any, English skills.
Many of my students are still learning English themselves! Quite often students do not receive help from home because their parents are working or they don't speak English. Both the students and parents WANT to succeed, they just need some additional help.
My students are sweet, hardworking second graders who already have career goals. We have daily conversations discussing how our decisions today impact our tomorrow.
At our school, and within the classroom, we strive to not only teach our students the basics: reading, writing, math, etc...but to be good people with kind hearts that contribute to their community. We are trying to mold our students into creative, collaborative thinkers.
My Project
Daily 5 is a literary framework that gives students the freedom to choose which activity they want to independently work on while I pull small groups. One of those 5 activities is word work. Finding engaging activities that motivate students to work on spelling, word patterns, high-frequency words, and word parts such as prefixes and suffixes is not always easy. These materials allow my students to engage in enriching and motivating activities. Many of my students have special needs so providing hands-on activities is important.
Once the students have built the stamina to work independently and productively, I am freed to work in small groups and target specific skills and help fill academic holes.
Students will use the Expo markers, colored pencils, and ink pads to create words in a variety of modalities. The pencil pouches will hold the pencil pouches and Expo markers so students will be able to grab their materials quickly and get to work. The Sterilite Drawer Units will provide an organized place for all the materials the students will need. Finally, the Bananagrams provide a hands-on, fun way to build words!
Our students appreciate any and all help you can provide!
