We are part of a very large school system but our school is on the smaller side serving around 400 students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school is a Title I, magnet elementary public school with a learning environment focused on the integration of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) designed to help students learn how to solve real-world problems.
What sets my class apart is their consistent effort to give their best every day, and it is because of them that I bring my best every day.
My class is a diverse group of students representing different parts of the globe. We have a balanced mix of boys and girls, but the cultures and learning levels stretch both ends of the spectrum. We are trying to cultivate a love for learning in the classroom by taking a very practical approach to teaching this enthusiastic group of students. Thoughtful and inspiring are my first thoughts for this group of students.
My Project
Hello, happy and generous donors. I am a fifth-grade educator, teaching science and social studies. My students are working on collaborative conversations and creating lesson artifacts such as anchor charts. An easel would be a useful tool in both of those endeavors. I also requested paper that we will use to post anchor charts around the room so that students can easily refer back to that valuable information we collected.
An easel would also be a wickedly awesome way to display my awful novice artistic skills.
Fortunately for us all, those awful drawings help students remember the important information that the drawings refer to, and I'm becoming a better artist with each effort. The easel would also be used to display examples, samples, and lists of science and social studies vocabulary words and terminology for each unit of study. We can graph and map with it, too. If the anchor charts are good enough, I can save them and use them for next year's students as well.
