My students need a hands-on science center, complete with crystals, and watch it grow greenhouses for spring science activities!
This project expired on January 16, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
Growing anything in rainy Southeast Alaska presents challenges. With limited daylight hours in early spring, the traditional methods of starting seeds indoors can be tricky at best. I'm searching for a more fool proof way to celebrate the joy of watching seeds grow into plants.
We live on an island in the rain forest of Southeast Alaska.
Our school has approximately 300 students with a Native Alaska population of about 65%. We are a Title 1 school full of eager learners! Weather brings us about 13 feet of rain each year so growing anything outdoors is a challenge at best!
I am requesting a hands-on science center that will allow children to explore parts of a plant by using sequence cards showing how plants grow, rubber stamps to label parts of a plant, and create science journals demonstrating growth from seed to plant. With the requested "Watch It Grow Greenhouses", we will be able to plant seeds and see how they germinate, grow roots, sprout and become plants. As a bonus, I am also requesting a crystal growing kit that will seem like magic but provide a different opportunity to see how things grow. Your generous donation will be much appreciated and make our spring time science study about plant life much more hands-on and meaningful!
Young children are naturally inquisitive about how things grow and change.
Hands-on science activities, such as those provided by the materials I'm requesting, will greatly enhance our science study in kindergarten. Thank you for considering a donation!
