Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In a school that is fortunate enough to have a pool, you would think that there are students lined up to be a member of the swim team. Unfortunately, our students do not have experience in the sport, many never having learned to swim and they are in their teens!
We are here to provide every student who is interested with the opportunity to learn and compete in the sport of swimming!
Due to the varying levels of experience and knowledge, practice sets are provided individually to each swimmer. As we teach and train the swimmers, they are responsible for monitoring their progress throughout the sets which are printed and placed in each of the assigned lanes for each individual swimmer, many of which do not have the finances for obtaining their own personal equipment.
The swimmers have been previously provided with a very basic set of goggles in which the straps often break or glue dissolves separating the foam cushion from the lens. We need more goggles and bungee straps that will be used to replace these straps when they break. The bungee straps will provide reliable and durable goggles throughout the season, also allowing for easy size adjustment for each swimmer.
