My students are a creative, strong-willed, diverse group of individuals. They enjoy working together as well as independently. Because all of my students are in military families, a lot of them rely on school for their main source of structure. While they need the structure school provides, my students LOVE to come to music where they can be flexible and express themselves.
These creative students are our future.
Their creativity and passion will change the world. They need many hands-on, enactive experiences to have a well-rounded educational experience.
My Project
Playing recorder is an important part of any elementary music experience. Learning a music instrument fosters creativity, perseverance, and many other skills. While each student plays recorder, not all are able to succeed because of the basic design of the instrument. These Nuvo+ Recorders will help students with learning and motor disabilities succeed at the same level as their peers. Normal recorders have finger holes that can be difficult to cover fully for students who lack fine motor control or advanced cognitive function. Nuvo+ Recorders have soft silicone coverings over the holes. These coverings make it very easy to cover any hole by barely pressing down the coverings. The silicone pads can also be pressed down using the side of your fingers, eliminating the need for students with limited motor control to bend each finger as they play notes.
Being able to succeed on a musical instrument such as recorder gives students increased self-esteem and motivation.
With the help of Nuvo+ Recorders, students of all developmental, cognitive, and ability levels will have an increased chance of success in the music classroom.
