Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a physical-education teacher at Lower East Side Preparatory School in Manhattan, and I am also a coach. In the off-season, there are very few activities for our students to participate in, and I want to create an opportunity for them to engage in an exciting and fun recreational activity. LESP is a school that serves students who all qualify for the free-lunch program.
The idea of this project is to set up a table tennis club. If our project is funded, it will give the students an opportunity to participate in a recreational club and competitive table tennis, as well as giving them an alternative to "hanging around" in the streets. These types of activities are essential for our students. They live in urban areas that have high crime rates, and the longer we keep the students off the streets by providing after-school activities, the more likely they are to be successful later in life.
This is part two of a two-part proposal. The first part was a request for funding to purchase a Centrefold 25 Sky Rollaway table tennis table, so the students have the proper surface to play on. This second part is for funding to purchase much needed equipment, such as paddles and balls, and paddles and rubber combo.
Funding part or all of this project will guarantee that students will have something to participate in after school. Thank you so much, in advance.
