Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I want my students to think of themselves as scientists by asking questions about everything around them. I want them to be engaged in learning science in our everyday lives and to believe that they can actually become the engineers who build the roller coasters someday.

My students are in the 9th grade taking physics.

They attend an inner city school and are low-income. The majority of them have never been to a theme park because their parents lack the funds and transportation to take them on extra-curricular activities.

My Project

I am requesting a bus to transport students to Magic Mountain. Our school lacks funds for buses due to budget cuts, and for many of my students, this may be their only field trip this school year. In addition, I am requesting funds to supplement the admissions fee. This is important as my school is Title 1, and the students are not able to afford the cost of attending this trip. We plan to fundraiser and ask parents for donations in order to pay for the rest of the tickets fees. The students will learn about energy and engineering designs in conjunction with this field trip. Students will learn the physics behind roller roasters and build their own roller coaster in a class project. This field trip will be the culminating event to our project. At Magic Mountain, students will be collecting data and making and comparing calculations regarding the various roller coasters.

Through your generous donation, you will be supporting future scientists and engineers reach the next phase in their self-perception of what it means to be a scientist.

Your donation will change students' lives by giving them first-hand experience with physics in the real-world.
