We have an eclectic group of students that come from various backgrounds and circumstances. Despite these differences, it is what they share with one another that makes our school a family. Every student from kindergarten to sixth grade is caring, kind, and dedicated to learning. The students work as a team and are always looking to help one another. This is immediately evident upon watching the students interact with their peers and teachers alike. It is an incredibly welcoming environment!
My students' passion for reading is truly awe-inspiring!
To be able to provide them with books that cover all interests and ranges would go a long way in keeping that fire and love of reading stoked.
They are truly a special group of students that can pull off amazing feats. There is no limit to what they can achieve. The library is the learning hub of the building. I want to capitalize on that by providing resources and materials that will further emphasize the importance of reading!
My Project
In conjunction with other educators in my building, I have conducted book clubs that occur prior to the start of the school day. Once a week we meet with the students to hold group discussions, complete activities, and enjoy games that are dedicated to the novel that we are reading.
The students have shown dedication and a love of reading that have made these book clubs possible.
We would love to provide more book options for the students by having copies readily available in our building to supplement future book clubs. An updated and wide selection of books would encourage the students to continue reading. This will be the second book club grant that I have written. More recently, we have been able to meet with the authors through Skype. Our club continues to grow because of your support. The books will also be considered for use when creating a list for our Battle of the Books competition. They will be used by hundreds of students each year, and I cannot thank you enough for any support that you can provide!
