My Students

I believe it is my duty to provide a learning environment that gets my students excited about reading and technology.

Our classrooms are full of students from a variety of backgrounds, but we all come together as one big family at school.

My students live in a small, rural community of about five thousand people. Approximately forty-one and a half percent of students at our school are living at, or below, the poverty level. Most of their families consist of blue-collar workers living paycheck to paycheck.

My Project

It is lovely to think of the books that we enjoyed as children. When we run across them later in life, we are transported to the time when we first fell in love with the story. One of my favorites is the Phantom Tollbooth. My 6th grade teacher read it aloud to us and I was transformed into the world of Dictionopolis, the Castle in the Air and the Doldrums.

This project would send each 5th grader on their way to middle school with their own copy of The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster.

My hope is that this book touches that special place in their heart that transports them back to 5th grade.
