This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students adore reading and listening to stories. They don't just read books, they devour them. Books are their passport to wonderful worlds beyond the mundane orchards and fields. I love when my students develop long lasting friendships with newly discovered characters. Watching them close a book as they cling to their beloved characters, yet enthusiastically crack the next cover is uplifting. These kids read more than what is asked. They read on the weekends, and after bedtime.

My school is nestled in the heart of a rural agricultural community.

My students are kindhearted, adventurous, and imaginative. They come from all walks of life. They deserve the opportunity to discover all the literature they can ingest.

My Project

My students thrive when they are able to follow along with an audio version of a text. In order for them to be successful, they need to be able to see the word as they hear the word. When each student has their own book to hold, the story becomes more personal. Through this style of reading my students have greatly increased their word recognition, comprehension, and writing ability.

We need copies of The Phantom Tollbooth to not only strengthen their language arts skills but to enjoy.

This story is one that brings to life the world of letters and numbers. There is nothing better than watching their eyes light up as they laugh at the many puns and jokes hidden within the content of the story.
