My students need a reliable keyboard to sing and play in tune with in my music classroom.
"This piano is really out of tune!" comment students in my classroom on a regular basis. The piano in our classroom is so old, flat and frail that it is past the point where it could be brought back to life by a piano tuner. We need a new keyboard for our music room!
I teach at a K-12 charter school in Ohio that serves a largely urban, and low socioeconomic population.
I teach general music to all our elementary students, band and a music appreciation class at the high school level, and after school band for our middle school students. In short, our music room sees a lot of kids in a day! Many of these students have rough home lives and have very little music experience outside the classroom. I try my best to give them as much exposure to music as possible so they can become lifelong lovers of music.
A piano is crucial to any type of music class. I use the piano in some way in every music class I teach. Our current piano is about a half step flat which means I cannot play along with my band students, and everything we sing in general music is a half step off! What's more, the piano is very frail. Our building is undergoing renovations this summer which involves moving the piano. I'm not confident the piano will survive the move! An electronic keyboard and stand would solve all of these problems. An electronic keyboard is always in tune, eliminating the need to spend extra funds hiring a piano tuner. The keyboard I am requesting is also very portable meaning we can use it in other parts of the school when we have performances. This is something we cannot do with our current piano. Finally, space is always a concern, and this keyboard would take up a lot less space in our classroom than the current piano. With ever expanding class sizes, more space is always a good thing!
The students always love it when I play piano along with them, but I can't do this often because I am limited in what I can do with our current equipment.
This keyboard would allow me to play along with students in all of my classes which would increase the quality of their music education. One of the skills I try to teach my kids is how to play and sing in tune. A perfectly pitched piano would greatly aid me in doing so.
