This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach junior high science in a low-income district in Mississippi. Most of my students come from homes where school supplies are not a high priority. This has not dampened the desire to learn, however! What my students are lacking is a very basic resource for the classroom: copy paper.
At the junior high level, the emphasis is not only on learning the foundation for continuing studies in science, but also learning to read effectively and comprehend that reading competently. This can't happen without written words to read. Junior high kids tend to deal in concretes: they need to hold the story in their hands to read it, have the graph in front of them in order to understand it, keep the diagram readily at hand in order to refer back to it when needed. This is all very difficult to provide when there is a shortage of copy paper on which to print these materials.
This is where you, Dear Donor, can make a world of difference. My limited supply funds have gotten all the materials I can obtain for the year, and we are still woefully short in the area of copy paper.
I know in these hard economic times that everyone is hurting. But should you come across a spare dime that you could send our way via this request for assistance, it would be appreciated more than you could possibly imagine. Thank you in advance for any consideration you give to my humble request for help.
