I have the pleasure of inspiring middle school and high school artists in a small town close to the Des Moines metro area of Iowa. We are a progressive K-12 school focused on using innovative practices to personalize learning helping our students become more global ready.
Through project based learning, our students develop creativity, solve problems, communicate, collaborate, think globally, persevere, and demonstrate employability skills.
Last year my high school students collaborated with elementary students during their art classes to create Peace Poles to put outside our garden spaces around our school. They had a blast with that project and wanted to do something bigger this year. Just recently they have chosen the outdoor piano project. They have seen some artistic pianos around the Des Moines are and are excited to be able to bring this artistic and functional project to our area for the whole community to enjoy.
My Project
The resources needed for this Outdoor Piano Community Project are several colors of good quality outdoor weather proof paint. We have already generously received donations of 2 pianos for this project and are very eager to begin.
The outdoor paint donation will ensure that our piano will last a long time so it can be enjoyed by many members of the community.
Without your help we would normally not be able to afford the quality paint needed to make this project a successful outdoor public art piece as well as a functional piano. Students will be so excited to know that their hard work sanding the piano and painting designs will not be something that they will have to redone in a couple of years.
