I have approximately 130 8th grade language arts students. These students come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, many who are on the free and reduced lunch program. Many are unable to bring the school supplies that we need in the classroom on a daily basis.
I want to provide my students with the best classroom experience that I can.
Having the necessary supplies in my classroom will help make each day a positive experience for my students. Having supplies readily available in class gives the students one less thing to worry about.
My Project
Paper and pencils are a must for a writing unit, but having other supplies like colored file folders, sticky notes, colored pens and highlighters will help make our unit more hands-on. Students will be able to color code different parts of a paragraph and an essay, so they can better understand what they will need to write.
Color coding when we learn to write is a great tool for visual learners.
While writing is such a challenge for so many students, adding the use of highlighters and colored sticky notes makes it a little easier to grasp. Being able to provide these supplies for my students will take the burden off of the families that do not always have extra funds.
