In the school where I teach we have many different cultures blended into a fantastic school community. We have a wide range of backgrounds from homelessness to new immigrants from refugee camps to students from low-income homes.
My students are fun and enthusiastic learners who love to read and explore new ideas.
My 4th grade classroom is a great place for learning. My students have many opportunities to learn from each other and are always striving to do their very best.
My Project
I want my 4th graders to have the experience of traveling the treacherous Oregon Trail and making the necessary decisions to make it all the way to Oregon City. We're halfway to Oregon City; the third book in the series will continue to enhance my students understanding of traveling west as young pioneers. It's 1850 and we've traveled for more than two months on foot for fifteen miles a day with our family, covered wagon full of supplies, and oxen.
There are still months of adventure ahead of us—if we can survive the dangerous ford of the wild Snake River at Three Island Crossing!
Which path will we choose? With twenty-two possible endings, choose wrong and we'll never find the Snake River. Choose right and we'll blaze a trail that gets us closer to Oregon City! They have to read a scenario; then choose between two questions; depending on their choice they are referred to a new page in the book; and continue reading until the next set of questions.
Oregon City is so close! In the fourth book of the series we still have weeks of travel ahead of us. Will the young pioneers make the right decisions and make it to all the way to Oregon City?
These two books will be a great way for my students to continue their journey from Haunted Gate to Oregon City, Oregon. Thank you for helping my students learn first hand what it was like to make the 2,000 mile journey from Independence, Missouri to Oregon City, Oregon.
