My Project

In fifth grade, students study the Oregon Trail as part of an interdisciplinary unit on Westward Expansion and research report writing. After having taught this unit twice now, I can see where students may get bogged down by a lot of the research and miss out on the stories in all of this: interesting accounts of what life was like on the trail for varying people.

These books will help all of my students become more engaged readers.

I believe that having books that are a better fit for my current population of students will help inspire my students to read to learn.

We, as teachers, have the opportunity to create lifelong, motivated readers, and I am going to give it my best this year to provide high-interest, quality books that my students can use to take steps toward becoming true readers.
