My students from Arizona are part of a dual language program. This program allows students the advantage of learning their grade level content in two languages, English and Spanish. The focus of the program is to develop culturally responsive, active learners who are intellectually challenged and engaged.. This program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes an opportunity to learn and thrive. My energetic 1st graders enter the classroom ready to learn, discover, and explore.
I have 53 energetic 1st graders that beam as they learn new things on a daily basis.
The large area rug will help students go beyond memorization. It will build lasting mathematical language connections. My students will be able to think, learn, and collaborate together.
My vision for each learner is that they can actively discover to make math literacy concepts make sense.
It can be extremely challenging to meet the needs of each student the rug can be used as a tool to build on concepts being taught. Students who use manipulatives create evidence of thinking and reasoning, solve problems, and make sense of mathematical ideas. My students learn math in Spanish so having hands on materials is ideal.
