My Students

My students are excited to learn about Greek Mythology and voted on this title as our introductory novel to the unit. We have very few classroom sets of novels and none that are related to Greek Mythology.

My students attend a rural, moderate poverty public school in North Carolina.

Many students have very few opportunities to explore new places, so we try to visit as many places as we can through field trips and books. My students have a love of learning and are excited to read about the Greek Gods through this novel.

My Project

This being the first year teaching a brand new curriculum, I am finding that there are standards that I have little or no resources for. The Lightning Thief will help meet many of those standards, including Greek Mythology, theme, character, setting, complex text, and it can also be used as a mentor text when working on word choice in writing.

More than the enjoyment of a good book, The Lightning Thief will help teach my students needed elements of the curriculum and life lessons, such as humility and perseverance, that they can apply to their own experiences.
