We are building this program from nothing and need your help! We are a Title I school in Georgia, serving 430 students in grades 6-8. The relationships we are building while working on an annual school musical are our proudest achievement (student/student, teacher/student, administration/student, school/community).
A few additional highlights of our first year:
-30+ auditioned for our Musical, "Schoolhouse Rock, Live! Jr."
-28 participated as actors or technicians
-15% of the school involved in musical performance (as performer or technician)
-~100 students attended performances
-2 "standing room only" parent/community performances
-1 encore (for our district Superintendent, Partners in Education, local businesses, and invited parents and community members)
In the two years my school has offered a musical theatre performance as an extra curricular opportunity, we've been able to connect with and engage 107 of our 430 students in opportunities on or backstage! We are proud of their hard work and are excited about continuing this process with them. Creating a program from the ground up has been costly, and students have been a part of that process. Last year through several fundraisers, our students were able to raise the entire cost of putting on our school's first ever musical. Since then, by using proceeds from ticket sales, we've been able to begin to purchase additional needed technical equipment.
A wireless microphone system will allow my students to sing and dance during their performances!
