My Students

I teach art at a small school in a tiny rural Mississippi community. For most of my students, the only exposure they have to the arts is through school and my art class!

Our school may not have a lot of what other schools have, but we've definitely got the talent!

I am constantly amazed at the creativity that pours out of my students on a daily basis. Despite our limited supplies and tiny classroom, my students appreciate what they have and always put their all into their projects!

My Project

I recently discovered a really fun and exciting art project I know my students will go crazy over! This project will allow students to create their own ocean scenes that we will be able to 'light' up using paper flashlights!

The materials needed are basic, but the effect is so cool!

Students will draw ocean animals and underwater scenes on plastic ziplock bags using a Sharpie. Students will then place a black piece of paper inside the Ziploc bag. When students slide their paper flashlights into the bags, it makes the ocean scene appear to light up!
