My Students

First grade is at the heart of education. It is the time when many fundamental educational and social skills start to solidify. I want first grade to be a positive and memorable experience for each of my students. This is also the year where they start to really form an opinion about reading. I want to ensure that opinion is a positive one.

My students haven't ever experienced what we would consider a "normal" school year.

Covid has been what they are used to. This has created some gaps and challenges in their learning process. Many of them have missed a lot of school. Reading and writing are such critical skills to develop and I want to give my first graders every chance possible to be successful in these areas.

My Project

The materials that I am seeking are all focused on helping students improve their reading and writing skills. My nonfiction book selection has been quite bare. Children love learning about the world around them and I wanted to give them a better selection to choose from.

Reading and writing are meant to be fun!

I wanted to get drawing tablets that will be used for sight word practice, developing fine motor skills, and help save paper. I also wanted to get some hands-on materials like the letter cubes and puzzles to engage them in building words. The pens, colored pencils, and regular pencils will help with their writing.
