Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in the city of Carson. We have 462 students in MSA-3 and are growing in size. Students who attend here are from low-income communities and about 90% of them are qualified for a free and reduced lunch program throughout the school.
My students are highly enthusiastic about physical education and participating in games and activities for the school year.
Students come with a variety of backgrounds and get to demonstrate/model to the class how to perform skills correctly. Students get to express themselves out on the field/blacktop.
Furthermore, in my physical education class, I teach my students how to be team players, work cooperatively, teach life skills, be responsible and have team building activities. My goal is to teach students nontraditional sports and introduce them to a new chapter of being physically fit.
My Project
Students will be exposed to a variety of non-traditional games like Slammo Game set, 10 sets of Da Vinci 175 gram to participate in ultimate frisbee, and the Adjustable PVC jump rope to build cardio fitness in my class. I am trying to incorporate a different look on being physically fit. The traditional sports are great but I feel I can grasp all the students' attention on games and activities they do not encounter on a daily basis.
Slammo and ultimate frisbee will attract the attention from the entire class as it will spark interest in the creativity while playing the game at its fullest.
I will continue to introduce skills that are necessary to be successful from other units that are introduced throughout the year. The transition from one sport to the next will be easy as they will have knowledge of some skill that may be necessary to be successful in the sport.
