Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school district serves a huge Latino population in the Indianapolis area. Most of them are from low-income families. Every year we welcome new immigrant families to our district, mainly from Central America.
For many of those kids, playing soccer is like their national past time.
But due to the competitive nature of sports, being in a team is not a possibility to every kid. The common playing field in a low-income area is composed of 4 trash cans as the goalies. This project means the opportunity experience the game as it should be.
My Project
This is an after-school soccer club. All of my students in the club are Latino kids (boys and girls). I chose the name The No Try Out Team because many of my students tried to be on the school team but they were cut off.
The reason for a part two is because there are almost 50 students in the soccer club, and this will allow us to have two separates soccer fields.
Since there are almost 50 students in the club, these resources will allow us to set a second playing field with real goalies instead of what we have now, goalies made of cones.
