How do they do that? Wow, that's cool! What in the world makes the line come up when they draw? Who knows how to do this? Where can we find out about it? When can WE do it? My students love new ways to learn and engage in math.
My third graders live in a gorgeous, but remote, area of the Appalachian Mountains where many tourists come for recreation and vacation.
The public school my students attend is full of caring, kind teachers who want to be sure that geographic isolation does not keep students from getting the newest materials and supplies, the best education and having every opportunity available to the students in more populated areas.
My Project
Often math can be a bit daunting to third graders. It is really the first time they are expected to do much on their own, and that is very scary. Some students will not even write on the paper because they are so scared of doing it wrong. With these gelboards, they can do their work and not be scared of doing it wrong. Mistakes are just wiped away and no harm is done. Imagine how fun it would be to do math on these. Even better, imagine how much they would learn by doing this.
I know you don't know my 8 year olds.
Since they live in an isolated area, they don't know many people at all. But they would love to have these boards and it would help them learn. Please, will you help us? They may not know you, but they would feel know and cared about by you, if you donated to their learning.
