My name is Rachel Guzman and I have been teaching for seven years. I teach at Warren Elementary in Highland, Indiana. I have taught first grade and sixth grade in these seven years and Reading is my favorite subject at both levels. I developed a love for Reading at an early age and am so grateful that I have the opportunity each day to enrich and motivate my students to read! Recently our school has adopted a new reading program for our school. It is a computer based technology program entitled, Accelerated Reader. The students have begun this program and are already beginning to show signs of improvement in comprehension and vocabulary skills. The program is very costly and demands monetary amounts each and every year. The program can only be a success if we have a sufficient amount of money for Accelerated Reader quizzes. My staff has done an excellent job in engaging our students in the program, however, more supplies are needed. These supplies mainly consist of Accelerated Reader quizzes. Each quiz costs a little under three dollars. We would like the children to have access to as many books as possible so that they may be interested in reading. We are asking that one thousand dollars be donated to our school so that we can purchase more quizzes for our children. We feel that this will be beneficial in the success of the program with the end result of children enjoying Reading! The quizzes are downloaded through the internet and the children are able to take the quizzes in our computer lab. This would be a great beginning to the program and we hope that you can help our school begin a program we are confident will enrich reading and motivate students to read! Thank you for your time!
