Jennifer Fleming said "Teaching in the Internet age means we must teach tomorrow skills today." But what if you don't have the most current and up to date skills to become successful? We need the new Lego Mindstorm EV3!
My students go to a small elementary and intermediate school on the island of Oahu.
It is a Title I school where 90% of them receive free or reduced price lunch. Although they come to school with this disadvantage, my students make up for it with a lot of heart. They are really great students that just need the opportunity to prove themselves.
My Project
The New Lego Mindstorm EV3 is the new and improved robot that Lego just released this year. This robot comes with a lot of new features that could possible give any Lego competition team an edge over their competitors. One of the most important features that was upgraded was its processing power. The new EV3 can use 4 motors instead of 3 and still provide accurate readings with it's sensors. With this new technology, my students will have a better chance competing in the First Lego League competition. The most popular part of the competition is the robot game, where each team has two and a half minutes to complete as many missions as possible. During the course of the semester, my students will learn about engineering, programing and how to communicate as a team. These three things are really important because our students today need to have good problem solving and technology skills in order to obtain a competitive job in the future.
With your help, this donation will have a huge impact on their future.
I think that participating in First Lego League will give my students a bigger picture on their future. They will be able to see how other teams came up with their solutions and they will be able to reflect on their own answers.
