Help me give my students authentic instruments such as the Sonic Ornamental Singing Bowl & African Talking Drum to help perform stories from around the world. Students will use the story books and instruments to create story musicals.
Our school is a public Montessori program that serves a plethora of students. There are 3 unique groups of students served by our school: students from the nearby neighborhood, students with multiple disabilities in self-contained classrooms, and students that are transported to our school. Some students are transported by the parents because of our unique Montessori philosophy and materials in the general classroom. Our population is diverse and includes but is not limited to military families, families with students with disabilities, families seeking alternative forms of education for the benefit of their child's education.
My Project
Stories provide an insight into the world as seen by a specific culture. Music can help to enhance the experience of stories by providing aesthetically pleasing sounds that compliment the tale.
Students will connect with Multicultural stories from collections like "Sound Stories" & "Tapestry of Tales" by creating dances, dramas and musical accompaniments to the stories.
Musical Instruments, such as the African Talking Drum, Castanets, and the Singing Bowl, will be matched with the stories from around the world by region. In an effort to provide culturally accurate and appropriate education, stories from around the world will be paired with instruments that are authentic to that region.
