Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is not only special because it is a Special Education Resource room, but also because of the students who fill my room. My students have IEP's (Individualized Education Program), but that doesn't stop them from having a great love for learning. Coming from teaching at a higher income level area school, I intentionally sought out a low-income area to serve. Our school is in a low-income area where over 85% of our students are on free or reduced lunch program... not to mention that most students at our school are ELL's (English Language Learners). Lincoln's motto is "Be positive, be polite, be productive". My students never cease to amaze me and I'm convinced that I am the one who learns from them.
My Project
I am asking for funding so I will be able to complete Component 4 for the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. I am pursuing certification in the area of Exceptional Needs Specialist - Birth to 22 years, which encompasses subjects Math, Reading, & Writing, as well as Social Emotional Learning/Social Skills. This year is the third year of my journey, as I have completed components 1 & 3 and awaiting my score on component 2.
This professional development has allowed me to become systematic in every decision, data-driven, & better at involving parents, & embracing diversity, among so much more that my special needs students will benefit from for years to come.
