Our school is located in the beautiful, rural area of Northwest Ohio. My students love all of the hands-on learning that we do within our science classroom. Remote learning has made it difficult to have that hands-on experience.
We try our best to give students the materials that they need to succeed and when that is possible, our students do some amazing things!
My Project
I began my teaching career last year (2019-2020), teaching high school physics and physical science. It was a whirlwind of a year! I learned a lot of new things and my students and I were thrown into a very unprecedented situation at the end of the year with the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. We were thrust into a remote learning experience with little warning. While I tried my best to give my students the best experience possible, my technology tools were limited.
This year, having access to an iPad Air, would allow me to demonstrate physics calculations, balance chemical equations, as well to draw models and highlight important information in real time!
This will allow them to see me write, as well as hear me explain my thinking as we work through the problems. This is something that is not possible on the computer that I have. Being able to freehand allows me to draw different models of the atom, to record complex calculations, and to insert data into our lessons.
Having an iPad would make remote learning much easier for my students. Science is a topic that is very tough to teach online. We have to be creative about the tools that we use. Having a more interactive interface would be a dream come true for both me and my students!
