Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an urban educator who teaches a very diverse student population of over 500 children from more than 13 different countries. I teach every child from grades preK through grade 5 as a physical education teacher.
I use sports and physical fitness to help support my fellow classroom teachers in helping educate the children entrusted in our care.
I love introducing new sports and activities that motivate my students to explore new challenges and improve their health and fitness levels.
My Project
I will use the grant funds to purchase sporting goods to incorporate a morning fitness and sports club to address attendance, academic and behavioral issues in my school community.
I will target students with extreme behavioral support needs and attendance issues to improve student academic learning by incorporating sports and physical activity to begin each school day.
The program will also support parents who have child care needs by allowing them to bring their child to school one hour early so they may get to work on time. This supports student safety by ensuring that all children will be properly supervised and cared for when parents have before school child care needs.
The purchase of the sports equipment allows me to take a larger number of children into the program by providing more equipment for my students to actively participate in fitness activities. Team sports, cooperative games and fitness challenges will help my students develop the physical, emotional and social skills needed to be successful learners.
