Help me give my students class sets of leveled readers for small group instruction and intervention, and to take home for reinforcement! There is a great need for books that are level appropriate for our students.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a lively bunch of 4th graders who all enjoy reading, writing, and creating things. As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with many challenges both in school and outside of school. Despite the many challenges they face, my goal is to create a fun and safe learning environment, while providing them with as many opportunities for success.
I believe in my students, and the opportunities that I place before them encourage them to also believe in their selves.
When they look back at the things they've mastered and created, they too begin to see the perseverance that lies within them, and the things that seemed impossible quickly start to diminish.
My Project
The sets of leveled nonfiction readers, were chosen due to the needs of my students. Many of my students struggle reading 4th grade leveled text. To build my students’ confidence, and develop their comprehension skills, I have chosen these interventions to enhance the learning experiences of my students. I have selected a variety of levels to meet students’ where they are, as well as a variety of topics to reach my students’ interests and keep them engaged. This addition to our class will help students become better, and more confident readers. Help me expand the horizons of our future, by focusing on the importance of literacy.
