My students need basic school supplies such as sticky notes, erasers, and pencils, in order to become successful learners for the upcoming school year! They also need subscriptions to Storyworks and TIME for Kids magazines.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Creative, energetic, and unique are just some of the personalities in my classroom! My students are a diverse group of amazing children from different socioeconomic backgrounds, races, and religions. They are a lively young group who are in need of materials to help them be life long learners.
Many of my students come from low income families who struggle to provide their children with the supplies they need in order for them to become successful.
My students should be provided the opportunities and basic school needs as any other student in any other thriving district! School should be a place they come to where they have access to everything that will enhance their educational needs!
My Project
I am a teacher in a high needs community where nearly all of my students students come from low income households. They begin every new school year lacking the school supplies they need to succeed. I would like to be able to provide them with the materials they need to support their learning.
Every child should be given the opportunity to show their full potential in a classroom with endless resources!
With your help, my students will start the school year off right with brand new pencils, notebooks, folders, post-its, and reading resources! My students use their notebooks so frequently that they run out of notebook space. Contributing to this donation will allow me to store extra notebooks for when they need a new one! Post-its are a must in my classroom. My students constantly use post-its during reading and writing. During reading they "stop and jot" their thoughts, feelings, and connections and during writing they work through the writing process noting their revisions and edits.
In addition to needing school supplies, my students also love to read, and would definitely benefit from a subscription to Time for Kids! This will enrich their knowledge of what is going on in the world around them by having access to news stories. Exploring non-fiction texts is a standard that is heavily focused on in 5th grade and the Time for Kids articles will allow my students to study the genre in an engaging way!
Like to Time for Kids, Storyworks is another subscription magazine that will engage my kids in texts that are aligned to our standards. Storyworks will provide texts that support skills such as main idea, summarizing, and comparing and contrasting through a variety of genres.
