My students need a variety of good books so that they are able to take on this year's forty book challenge.

My Students
This will be my first year teaching fifth grade at our school. This particular school was built to fill the diverse needs in this area. The school opened the fall of 2015 and is currently in it's third year. Although being at a new campus is exciting, it comes with it's share of growing pains. For one, there is a lack of supplies due to funding. Many of our students have been transferred from different areas around the district; therefore, they are an ethnically diverse population who have a wide range of income levels. Many are military families, non-English speaking families or families who have wonderful students with special needs.
Put all of this together and you get a school of extraordinary students who at times struggle academically because of the circumstances they face daily.
Here, we are all working together to create change and make this year a successful one for all of our precious students.
My Project
If I want students to read at home, I have to provide them with opportunities at school.
In addition to our school library, a classroom library with these current award winning books, is just what I need to keep them engaged.
I am in the process of creating an environment for wild readers. Readers who not only read books, but actively plan for their next exciting read, before they are done with their current book. With the books in this project, I know our students will be able to meet the forty book challenge this year! Some titles include "The Playbook", "Starfish" and "How to Make a Wish".
