How do we prepare students for the real world? Is writing draft after draft with paper and pencil creating college and career ready individuals? Today, so much is done with technology. It is essential for students to experience and use technology regularly in order to prepare for the future.
My students come from a high poverty city.
Technology is something that is not always available to them, in and outside of school. These 5th and 6th grade students come to school with questions, ideas and the desire to learn. My classes are composed of diverse populations. My students come to school with their own individual needs, interests and experiences. Each day they are encourage to question, explore and create new learning. My students are at a variety of learning levels, both high and low. With the use of technology, all students will have the opportunity to work at their level and grow as learners.
My Project
In my class, students will become authors and researchers. They will create an understanding of the unknown and develop a love of learning. As researchers, students must have access to a variety of resources. With these Chromebooks, my students will be able to explore the internet as they search for the answers to their many questions. As authors, students need a way to work their ideas and writing pieces through the writing process. This needs to be done in a way that will be applicable for students throughout their education. With Chromebooks, students will type, edit, revise and publish their work. Using computers to publish their work prepares students for their future. Pencil and paper drafting and publishing is no longer a realistic approach. With these Chromebooks, students will also have access to applications, interventions and other resources to support learning. This will provide students with additional support that is engaging and exciting for the learner.
In our world today the use of technology is so prevalent.
We leave students at a disadvantage by not providing them with an opportunity to experience technology. Too often students have little or no exposure to computers and technology. Having Chromebooks in the classroom will help provide students with equal access to technology. With these Chromebooks my students can explore, create and learn!
