The More That We Read The More Things We Will Know!
My students need a set of Dr. Seuss books for our classroom library. We have several lessons planned, followed by a field trip to see the Seussical in March.
As a first year educator, I take pride in providing opportunities to enhance my students learning in and outside of school. Students are provided many opportunities to have down time and choose books from our classroom library. Unfortunately our library is small and doesn't provide a lot of variety.
I teach at a Title I School in North Carolina.
Most of the students I serve are from a low socioeconomic status. My students are very loving and have bright personalities. The students love to use their imagination and do very well at retelling some of their favorite stories. Unfortunately many of my student's are not exposed to different works in literature. I am looking to enhance their reading skills to improve their vocabulary and writing skills. I want to help my students become more independent and fluent readers. Having books that are of interest will enable them to grow and develop a deeper love for literature.
My Project
With the use of these materials I will be able to provide a more in depth lesson plan and give students concrete materials to use from the classroom library. The activities that will be done include, but are not limited to standards: RL.K.5: Common text types RL.K.7/RI.K.7: Describe the relationship between illustrations and the text/story.RL.K.9: Compare and contrast experiences of characters.
We will read various works by Dr.Seuss before seeing the play we will teach one of the themes in the show which is loyalty. The students look up the word in the dictionary. Ask your students what it means to them; discuss examples of how you can be loyal to someone. Dr. Seuss is known for creating nonsense words in his stories. Students will identify nonsense words, rhyming words, compare and contrast characters and events using interactive anchor charts. After seeing the play we will discuss how the characters in the play differ from the books we read in class.
This donation will help enhance and improve the learning and development of all my students.
It will increase their vocabulary, increase their phonemic awareness as well as enhancing their creativity and imagination. This donation will help provide my students with an opportunity to have a classic set of books to their disposal on a daily basis. This opportunity will enhance their learning experience before attending their field trip. I am very optimistic about the outcome of this project.
