This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a self-contained classroom full of students with various intellectual disabilities. My students are some of the sweetest, hardest working children you will ever meet. Despite the many obstacles life has thrown their way, they show up excited and eager to learn each day. They're ready to give their best, and I meet them head-on with challenges to help them grow and develop into exceptional students, friends, and leaders. This is my second year teaching in a self-contained classroom, and it is hands down the best and most fun experience I’ve ever had in the classroom!
My Project
My students have an amazing set of skills and abilities. Due to the nature of their various disabilities, it can be a struggle to meet them where they are with activities and learning experiences that help them grow, socially, academically, and physically.
As their teacher, it's my job to do everything I can to understand my students' unique needs and help them excel and exceed boundaries and expectations!
The Reason I Jump is a book written by a young man with autism to help the adults in his life understand his thoughts and needs as a child and will help me better understand my growing population of students with autism. Magic Eyes is a vision training guide and will help me accommodate the needs and build the skills of my students with vision impairments. 2, 4, 6, 8 This is How We Regulate will give me play therapy ideas to increase mindfulness in my students. Toddler Activities Made Easy, Learn Toddler Activities and Outdoor Toddler Activities will give me creative ideas and supports to increase my students' skills and abilities. Finally, Teach a Child to Read in One Week is a fun way for little ones to learn reading skills.
I can't wait to learn and grow along with my students this year!
