Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kids are hungry for knowledge! They want to have more ways to express themselves academically, but our school is an urban school with little funds to help renew and replenish old and worn out materials. My students need to have up to date material to compete in the 21st century. When I told them about this project, ideas poured out of them. They talked about all the places they wanted to visit, people they wanted to talk to, and ideas they wanted to share with others.

My Project
Walter Dean Myers is a quintessential author that needs to be read by every student in middle school. His style of writing speaks to hardships faced by young people of color in the United States with a style uniquely his own. Monster is a book that makes an instant impression on our youth. It is another one of those novels that stays with a person their entire life.
Monster teaches us that our identity is linked to who we choose for friends.
Meyers tells the story through a unique format of a screenplay which makes an impact immediately when students read it. It plays out like a film in the heads of the reader. It is exciting from start to finish leaving students wondering if the main character is innocent or guilty of his crime. Is he indeed a Monster?
