Our school is located in north central Minnesota next to an Indian Reservation and the Chippewa National Forest. About 40% of our students are American Indian.
Approximately 70% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, which reflects the level of poverty in the surrounding community.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these many challenges, my students are eager to learn. I am constantly looking for resources that provide my students with a positive classroom environment where everyone can learn.
Everyday we are constantly learning from each other in third grade. A document camera would give my students an easy way to share their work and ideas with eachother.
I can see so many endless possibilites to use this daily in class.
A document camera allows me to project what I am doing on my paper and books. This helps the process come alive for students. I really see this tool being so helpful in reading, writing, and math instruction. In reading, this will help us greatly in highlighting our text evidence together. In writing, this will help us with the writing process. In math, students can all easily see how I am using manipulatives. This tool will not oly benefit my students, but also my teaching.
