This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need instruments in order to practice, have purpose in the magnet program as instrumentalists, and aid in building the "esprit de corps" at our school. Every day my students come into class with a chip on their shoulder. Being the fact I work at a title 1 school, attitude and emotional distress is what's to be expected. But my students seem to always feel a sense of pride when they know they can get into college playing an instrument.

My Project

With these instruments, our talented students will have the opportunity to practice more while at school. Students will not have to worry about sharing, or waiting until after school practice to get a chance to play. Also, instead of students learning music via handouts, they can put it into performance by way of ear training and sight-reading. Having trumpets, clarinets and a drum set will give students the opportunity to compete in solo and ensemble competition as well as middle school band competition, which will help build teamwork. Finally, it will create esprit de corps among the student body and other organization around the school.
