My students are in a stage of self discovery, going through puberty, and wanting more independence. They are growing physically and mentally, fun to work with, and are very receptive to learning. But, not all students know about and have the supplies they need to be successful.
Expectation are high and the students needing organizational supplies and help are usually not getting good grades and/or struggling in classroom (not prepared).
Sometimes students getting supplies are in need (house fire, in foster care, homeless, low income) or may be just having a bad day (lost supplies or supplies were ruined)
My Project
Do you remember middle school? I'm a middle school counselor and a lot of the students that I meet with struggle with the transition from elementary to middle school. As a counselor, one way I can help reduce student's stress is as simple as helping them get organized to be successful in their 7 classes. I am able to work with students on organization and I give students supplies such as folders, binders, paper, pencils, and more so they can be successful in class and have a system to use that works for them. Also, I give supplies to students in need. For example a family had a fire and supplies were given.
