My Students

I read MaCluhan as a young man and I was inspired and provoked to look deeper into many issues. I want my students to look closely at the media that they are exposed to and play with.

My students are college bound seniors.

They have artistic sensibilities. They are tech-savvy, but I want them to examine the affects that such exposure to media is having upon them. The students are hard-working and have a keen interest in psychology and sociology. Bringing media and its consequences into the dialogue would be illuminating.

My Project

"The Message is the Medium" is a transformational text. How the media is used and how it affects our lives is of paramount importance. Everything from our politics to education is altered with every new technological change. How it affects the way we think and live is an area that needs exploration.

Young students sometimes play with every new technological toy with scant thought as to the effect that they have upon their life.

Self-reflection requires us to examine the tools that we use and are used by.
