I am a kindergarten teacher in one of the largest urban districts in the country. I have a class of 17 great students. I might work in a large district but sometimes materials for students in my grade level are often over looked. They tend to focus on testing grades while we have to sit back and make due with what we have.
I am in need of more materials for my math centers. Most of the things I currently have are showing their age. There are game pieces missing and broken. I have had to throw out some of my supplies because they are in very bad shape. Normally, I would go buy extra stuff for my class however I am currently in graduate school. My funds are very limited so I really can't afford to make many purchases for my class.
We need more games and activities for estimation, number matching and math practice math centers. I need additional materials for centers and small groups. At my campus, we are required to have to have center time/small groups. This allows me time to work with my students who are struggling with certain concepts. The other students will work in centers until its their turn at the teacher table. I also use centers as an incentive for good behavior.
By funding this project, you will help me meet the needs of all my students. Most of the success in my classroom comes from providing my students with small group time. Children who never talk during the whole group lesson have a time to shine. Please help me make great mathematicians out of my kindergartners!
