Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are energetic, enthusiastic, hilarious balls of excitement. Our school is near the bustling downtown center. Our school serves 80 percent low-income students of color with a three percent population of homeless students.
Our students are ready to come to school and are fascinated with learning about the world around them.
I feel so lucky to be able to help my students along in their growth. Their joy for learning keeps me coming back every day and keeps me pursuing my work in education.
My Project
My students are working on tracking multiple and conflicting views of characters as well as how they have multiple and diverse thoughts about themselves as well.
I would like to take this deep look into character deeper with an artistic self reflection project.
Students will get to create a two dimensional representation of themselves by drawing themselves with a contour line study that they transfer onto shrinking paper with permanent pen to create a keychain. Then students will use their representational drawings to then create a three dimensional sculpture of themselves using the Twistees. These two projects will be engaging explorations of fine motor skills, color combinations, mixed media and personal art creation.
