Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are artistic first and second graders who love art. In this combination class, the students are accelerated and challenged in all curricular areas. Art is an important outlet for creative expression.
In my classroom, we learn about famous artists and create pieces in each artist's style.
It's always a scramble to borrow paint brushes from other teachers. I would love to have a basic set of brushes and a drying rack for our creations. In addition, multicultural paint and crayons will allow us to create faces that reflect the diverse world we live in.
My Project
The multicultural colors will help my students represent the many colors we find in our community and our world. I am always mixing paint to provide different skin colors for my students. Having a premixed set will save time and offer more selection for diversity.
Planning an art lesson takes a lot of preparation.
Whenever I plan a painting day, I have to go to my colleagues to gather paint brushes. I would like to have a set of brushes at my disposal in my classroom. Also, our wonderful creations take a lot of room to dry, and I usually have the papers around the perimeter of the classroom. A drying rack would be a useful tool to hold all of our artistic creations as they dry. These tools will be utilized for years to come, and I know my students will directly benefit as we create together.
