This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are fun-loving, eager and full of life. I teach in a public 5th grade classroom right outside the gates of Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC. My students are very tech-savy and they enjoy learning through hands-on activities. My students feed off of classroom interaction, and they learn a lot from each other. For example, we use Kahoot in the classroom because it really brings the lesson to life for them. They are full of questions, and I enjoy finding the answers along with them.
My Project
My students love doing centers, but centers in fifth grade is a little different because of the testing demands. With the books and journals, I will be able to let my students learn through centers, while also meeting their academic needs. The books and learning kits are geared towards the things my students struggle with the most, and this is just another way to reinforce what we are learning in the classroom. With these sets, the student, and I can work on daily comprehension and more. By using things that pique their interest, it will ultimately help them achieve more.
