This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Jack and Annie climb into their Magic Tree House to dive into a new book that will take them to another land. My students need a comfortable place to dive into the Magic Tree House series and into a land of discovery and imagination that ultimately promotes reading.
The students in my classroom come from a high poverty area of Florida.
All of them receive free or reduced lunch due to their low socioeconomic status. They live in low income housing with many brothers and sisters and generally a single parent or guardian. They don't have access to the most common tools to be successful in school, including books.
My Project
Lacking proper resources, my students have not discovered the power and magic of reading. By providing a comfortable rug and pillow, a classroom library will be created where my students can peak their interest with the Magic Tree House series and other quality literature. This will encourage reading and create a sense of enthusiasm about books due to the bright and cozy library the materials will create. It will provide a place for students to engage in reading and explore the wonderful worlds that Jack and Annie explore in the series.
By developing a reader centered library, my students will become excited about reading and gain access to materials that aren't available to them on a daily basis.
This library of Magic Tree House books and classroom library supplies will generate a classroom full of enthusiastic and knowledgeable readers!
