Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all economic and cultural backgrounds. We are 50% free and reduced lunch school with students from almost all demographic areas. The students are enthusiastic to be at school and are committed to their education now and post-secondary education. Many of them will be the first in their families to graduate from high school and continue on to college. All of the students are in our college prep school to make a better life for all.

My Project

We have a cold hard concrete floor in our room. I would like to give my students an area where they can stretch out and read, study, practice Mindfulness and connect with each other. I have a small couch that I will put this in front of so that they can circle up an communicate with each other in a sacred (non religious) space.

Many of the students come from unhealthy homes, this area gives them a safe, comfortable place to feel at home within the school.

This will also help to create ownership of the classroom and their learning.
