My Students

Come into my classroom any school day and you will find some very busy little people exploring their world. In my Preschool classroom, everyone is safe and everything is at their level. You observe busy little people getting to know their world better. They even have a fenced-in playground where they can climb, slide run and imagine.

Outside of the school campus, it is a different story.

The neighborhood that surrounds the school is an impoverished one. The homes are very old and have not weathered well through the years. Many of them have burnt down and what is left is a shell of a house. Some of the blocks near our school have homes that have been preserved well. Many of these homes have fences that surround the home. It is hard-pressed to see children playing outside, even in the summer.

My Project

The magic of writing. From a very early age, we learn to communicate with others. By age four, many children can draw simple pictures and have entered into the early stages of writing for meaning. Many children like use the trial and error method as they begin to write. If my classroom had erasable boards, we have one other tool to encourage this writing process. These boards are easy to use in both an independent level as well as small and even large groups. My young children would benefit greatly from a set of these magical writing boards to use.
