The Magic of Supplies

My students need basic supplies, such as paper, pencils, and markers to let their creativity flow in class as we learn through project based lessons.

My Students

My students are incoming 6th graders. Seventy percent of my school is considered below the poverty line. My school is in a rural working-class area, and the majority of these students have faced financial and personal hardships outside of the classroom. In addition, they have fallen behind academically and will begin their middle school careers at a disadvantage. Many of them view the classroom as a place of frustration and failure.

My students are avid readers, open-minded explorers, and confident and successful learners--they just don't know it yet!

These students have lacked the educational experiences needed to build self-confidence and to encourage learning. In spite of this, they all have a desire to succeed and overcome setbacks they've faced thus far.

My Project

My students need notebooks, index cards, glue, and miscellaneous classroom supplies to create projects, invent solutions, and stay healthy!

These materials will allow my students to engage in a 21st century classroom.

In social studies and science, my students will participate in project based learning. They will be able to express themselves in multiple modalities- writing, sharing their work publicly, creating posters, and conducting experiments.

None of this is possible without these supplies.

The notebooks allow them to take notes, write letters, give feedback, and practice their learning. The index cards allow them to learn, practice, and quiz each other on new vocabulary words. The tissues, hand sanitizer, and Clorox wipes will ensure that our classroom stays healthy in the long winters, so we can continue to learn no matter the weather. We are hungry for new knowledge and committed to always doing our best-these supplies will make that magic happen!
